Ingredients

2 tbsp. seedless raisins
1 egg
2 cups milk
Slices of buttered bread
4 tsp. nutmeg
4 tsp. vanilla essence

Method

Grease a medium-sized oven-safe dish generously with butter.
Spread a layer of buttered bread on the bottom.
Add a few raisins on top.
Repeat the process, ending with a layer of bread.
After thoroughly beating the egg, add the milk and vanilla extract.
Pour over the bread and bake for an hour or until browned on top in a moderate oven (175° C).
